CINDERELLA CAVERLY c. 1850 - 1884
(Charles H., Philip Jr., Philip Sr., John Sr., Peter I, Peter Gerardus, Jean)

Cinderella born about 1850 in Rawdon Twp., Hastings Co., Ontario was the first daughter of Charles H. and Rebecca (Smith) Caverly. Her name appears on a couple of Huron Co., MI deed about the time of her father’s death in 1869. She and her younger brother Marshall Bidwell were witnesses when their mother married a second time.

Cinderella1She married John Thompson in 1867 in Huron Co., MI. On the 1880 Alpena Co., MI U.S. census for the 3rd. Ward, his occupation was given as a green grocer. They had sons Willie and James B. born 1870 and 1875, respectively. She died in Alpena on Aug. 15, 1884 of consumption.

John married Agnes (Mould) Kennedy three years later. They had six children together. John died in January 1910 of paralysis. After John died Agnes and family moved to the Detroit area. Willie and James were already old enough to be out on their own.

In 1937 James, Dollie, and Willie Thompson, and Ida (Thompson) Rausch attended the Caverly reunion in Kingston. Ida would have been James and Will’s stepsister. They were all from Detroit. Will was also present by himself at most of the other reunions throughout the 1930s and was shown as living in Flint, MI

John and Cinderella‘s son William died Feb. 25, 1960 in Lapeer, MI at the age of 89 after an extended illness at the Suncrest Convalescent Hospital. His obituary in the Lapeer Co. Press of March 3, 1960 says that he had moved from Alpena to Flint in 1910 where he worked on the railroad for many years. His hobby was caning chairs. Although his death certificate mentions him as a widower, no mention is made in his obituary of a wife and it is his half-sister Mrs. Jessie Blue who gives the information at the time of his death. Family sources recall Willie as being a little slow. Delilah (Warner) Caverly said that Will used to come for a week’s vacation in the summer and just sit on the porch.

At the time of William’s death his brother James was still alive and living in Buffalo, NY, half brothers George lived in Walled Lake and Roy in Capac. Half sisters Mrs. Jessie Blue lived in Columbiaville, Mrs. Cassie Raymond in Highland Park, and Mrs. C.W. (Ida) Hennyes in Wheatland, WY.
